Ken Arthur, Producing Director, and Barbara Pasternack, Artistic Director, are proud to announce the 50th Anniversary of TheatreworksUSA. Founded in New York City in 1962, the company has grown from a small local outfit to America’s largest nonprofit touring theatre for youth. Over the past fifty years, TheatreworksUSA has performed for over 90 million children, teachers and family members in 49 states as well as Canada. In the process, their repertoire has expanded to include 132 plays and musicals!

Honorees for the 50th Anniversary Celebration include Betty Jacobs (longtime TheatreworksUSA Board and Founding Circle member), alumnus Jerry Zaks (4-time Tony Award-winning director), George Forbes (Lucille Lortel Foundation Executive Director and Off-Broadway League President), Jeanne Mullgrav (NYC Department of Youth & Community Development Commissioner), and Barbara Sandek (TheatreworksUSA’s beloved Marketing Director).

The event will be chaired by Sheldon Harnick, Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist (and brother of TheatreworksUSA co-founder Jay Harnick), Julie Halpin Anderson (TheatreworksUSA’s Chairman of the Board),as well as Tony Phelan, Executive Producer for the award-winning television show “Grey’s Anatomy” (and TheatreworksUSA alum), and will include a special tribute to TheatreworksUSA co-founders Jay Harnick and Charles Hull.

TheatreworksUSA is excited to announce hosts, Charles Busch and Julie Halston and headlining performances and presentations by Tony Award-winners Barbara Cook, Nathan Lane, Donna Murphy, as well as a musical number from the award-winning production “The Book of Mormon,” co-created by TheatreworksUSA alum, Robert Lopez. Additional performances by a cadre of TheatreworksUSA alumni, including Tony Award-nominees, Brad Oscar (The Producers), Jayne Houdyshell (Follies), Mary Faber (How to Succeed in Business), Joe Iconis, Rose Hemingway (How to Succeed in Business)and many more. The evening will also include a tribute to Jerry Zaks by alumnus Stuart Ross, performed by the Cast of Fovever Plaid and a tribute to TheatreworksUSA by alumni Nell Benjamin and Larry O’Keeffe (Legally Blond: The Musical).*
