Documentary storytelling is flourishing like never before – encompassing reportage, memoir, history, humor and more. DOC NYC celebrates this cultural phenomenon and encourages its new directions.

The Sound of Music is delightfully reinterpreted in this poignant chronicle of Mumbai slum children who are selected to perform the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical at the city's elite performing arts cetner. Director Sarah McCarthy brings new meaning to songs like "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" as the children find inspiration in the music to dream bigger. The film never glosses over the difficulty of closing the gap between rich and poor, but it joyfully expresses the will to try.
